Thom Hartmann does it again! James Madison calls for impeachment!

The Founding Fathers never cease to amaze me. Yes, they had their faults, and we often place them on a pedestal that blinds us from their less then exemplary actions. But their writings and speeches about the Constitution(not only those who supported the Constitution but those who opposed it as well), politics, and government in general were indeed prescient.
Thom Hartmann has found a speech given by James Madion on the floor of the House on June 17, 1789 in which he actually discussed the "wanton removal of meritorious officers" by the President of the United States.

Madison's speech was a part of a much larger debate surrounding the creation of a formal State Department. Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution granted the President the power to nominate and appoint officers with the advice and consent of the Senate. However, if the President could nominate and the Senate confirm, who could fire?
The majority decided that the President would have the power, but that if he abused that power, he should be impeached.
